A compelling photographer is a perpetual student of light and a steward of the moment. Chasing Light Academy exists to help photographers become both.
Rob Jamason has spent over 25 years developing his eye through field work, commercial assignments, and an obsessive pursuit of the light. Robin Cowan came to photography later, learning directly under Rob. What began as mentorship became collaboration, and eventually something neither planned: a shared life and a shared vision.
Together they built Chasing Light Academy around everything they’ve learned and everything they’re still chasing.

Our Philosophy
Light as muse
There is a story everywhere, if you know how to see.
Light does not discriminate. It lands where it lands. What it uncovers in that moment is the photograph. Things most people pass by without a second thought: the lines carved into a stranger’s face, a cobweb between the legs of an antique chair, a weathered door in a back alley. Evidence of countless moments before the camera’s arrival.
Rob shoots close and deliberately, focused on the light and what it reveals. The texture, the dirt, the lines are worthy.
Shadow is just as important as light. While light is the subject, shadow is the invitation, giving the viewer room to enter the frame, to wonder, and to bring their own story.
Great photography bears witness to what is, what was, and what could be, bringing artist, subject, and viewer together in a single moment of light.

A country girl with an eye for open landscapes, Robin found something new working alongside Rob, a city boy. His world of grit, faces, and city light crept into her own, and hers into his. They make each other stronger.
Meet Rob Jamason
Maestro of shadow, texture, light
Rob picked up his first camera as a young adult and started where most photographers wouldn’t: low light. The hardest conditions, the least forgiving, the place where you learn fast or you don’t learn at all. He figured that if he could master light at its most demanding, everything else would follow. He was right.
More than twenty-five years later, his work has been exhibited in galleries across Europe, Arizona, and Florida, and he has been commissioned to photograph celebrities, musicians, athletes, and high-profile events, including legendary guitarist Steve Vai.
Rob believes a great photograph is intimate. An act of bearing witness to the worth of a moment. A point of connection between artist, subject, and viewer.
Over time, his passion expanded beyond making photographs. Helping other photographers grow became just as rewarding as creating the images themselves. Through classes, workshops, presets, and an active online community, he has spent years sharing his process and encouraging photographers to develop their own voice.
In many ways, that’s how Chasing Light Academy was born. It’s also how he met Robin. What began through photography grew into a creative partnership, a shared mission, and eventually a life together.

Meet Robin Cowan
Photographer, partner, protégée
Growing up on a farm in Georgia, Robin was drawn to landscapes, nature, and the quiet beauty of everyday life. A camera became a way to preserve those moments and the memories attached to them.
Her photography took a new direction when she began learning under Rob Jamason. Where Robin was naturally drawn to wide-open spaces and the landscape around her, Rob brought a perspective shaped by decades of experience finding stories in faces, everyday places, and fleeting moments. Through his guidance, she learned to slow down, simplify a frame, and let light lead the story.
Over time, Robin developed a style that reflects both influences. Her work carries the patience and appreciation for place that first drew her to photography, combined with the storytelling sensibilities she cultivated through years of study and collaboration with Rob.
The compliment she treasures most is “I can see your heart in your photographs.” For Robin, photography is an opportunity to share something genuine of herself while creating a connection with the person viewing the work.
Robin’s portfolio includes gallery, live event, portrait, online, product, and auction pieces. She has successfully exhibited and sold her work through galleries and private collections.
