Chasing Light Academy is the education, photography, and creative platform built by Rob Jamason and Robin Cowan. It brings together presets, courses, fine art prints, services, and a community of over 27,000 photographers.
It’s a way of learning to see differently. One focused on composition, light, and finding the story already present in a moment rather than forcing one. Read more about our philosophy here.
Yes. Rob and Robin work internationally and are available for select projects, workshops, and speaking engagements. Travel costs are covered by the client or negotiated separately depending on scope and location.
Join the Chasing Light Facebook group to connect with other photographers, share your work, and follow along with Rob and Robin.
Rob currently shoots with a Canon EOS R and a collection of trusted lenses and accessories built over decades behind the camera. For a complete list of the cameras, lenses, straps, and other gear he recommends, shop our Recommended Gear.
Yes. Over time, the courses, workshops, presets, and a growing community of photographers made it clear that teaching was not a side offering. It was the mission. Chasing Light Academy reflects that, while the photography and gallery work continue alongside it.
Start with the self-paced courses, then follow along on YouTube and social channels for ongoing tutorials and behind-the-scenes content. Many photographers also learn through the Chasing Light community. And if you want something more personal, Rob is available for customized workshops and learning experiences tailored to where you are and where you want to go.
After many years in Northeast Florida, Rob and Robin now spend their time traveling for photography, teaching, and creative projects. They follow the work wherever it leads. (It may lead to you!)
Presets and other digital products are non-refundable. Prints are also non-refundable due to the custom nature of each order. Photography services, workshops, and commissioned work are based on individual agreements or contracts and follow the terms outlined in those agreements.

Rob gets asked about this a lot. You can find it in the Recommended Gear section of the shop.
Start with gear that feels reliable, simple, and lets you focus on seeing the image rather than managing the equipment. Rob uses a Canon EOS R system and recommends building a kit around a versatile zoom and a fast prime lens to cover most situations.
For specific cameras, lenses, and accessories he personally recommends, visit our Recommended Gear page.
Yes. Our presets work with Lightroom Classic, Lightroom (Cloud), and Lightroom Mobile.

Yes. For best results, start by selecting the preset that most closely matches the mood or color palette you're after. Set your camera profile to Adobe Color, use Lightroom's Auto settings for exposure and white balance as a starting point, and then make small adjustments to suit the image.
Visit our Preset Tips page for step-by-step instructions, workflow recommendations, and before-and-after examples.

Learning is available through self-paced courses, as well as custom workshops and trainings with Rob. You can also learn tips by following our social channels and joining the Chasing Light community.
Rob teaches his signature approach in the "Black & White Editing" course: capturing and editing in black and white first to master light, shadow, contrast, and dynamic range before introducing color. It is where he started and where he recommends every serious photographer begin.
You will receive login credentials to access your course directly through the Chasing Light Academy website. All courses are self-paced with lifetime access.
These courses are designed for photographers of all levels. Whether you are just starting out or looking to develop a more intentional approach, the courses are built around seeing and understanding light, not just mastering settings.
You're not alone. Many photographers struggle to apply what they've learned from videos and online tutorials. In-person classes provide the opportunity to ask questions, receive real-time feedback, and practice in the field with direct guidance from Rob and Robin. Contact us to discuss a customized class or one-on-one learning opportunity.
